HERENTALS coach Celestino Benza says his side will not be fooled by CAPS United’s poor run when the teams meet in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League derby clash at Rufaro tomorrow.
CAPS United have won just once in their last seven matches and dropped four points off the pace after a 0-0 draw with lowly AGAMA at Wadzanai in Shamva last Sunday.
But Benza has been around long enough to know that in football, nothing can be taken for granted.
Benza said Makepekepe remain dangerous.
“CAPS United can never be judged by where they are on the log.
“They are a big team which can beat anyone any day.
“They have good players and a good coach. They are one of the favourites to clinch this year’s league title. We are not going to Rufaro to play a normal game. It’s a big game against an exceptional team.”
Herentals are also looking to bounce back after going two games without a win.
They lost to Scottland and drew 0-0 with ZPC Kariba, ending a strong run in July.
On 30 points after 18 games, the Students sit seven behind leaders Scottland and remain in the title race.
“Obviously, we will be looking at our own redemption. We have gone through a rough patch and need to come to the party against CAPS United.
It’s a match that we know we have to do everything to win. We need to redeem ourselves.
“It’s been a difficult spell for us in the past two, three weeks.
“And we can’t continue on that path. We need to come to the party against CAPS United and see to it that we are back in it.
“The boys are eager at training. There are no easy games in the Premiership this season, but we are ready,” Benza said.
“You know, if these boys are up for it, we will be good to go. We are ready to take on CAPS United.
“Of course, there are no easy games in the Premiership this season, but we are really ready,” added Benza.
Despite their slump in form, CAPS United coach Takesure Chiragwi, earlier this week moved to reassure the Green Machine fans.
“We’re okay. Look where we are,” Chiragwi said.
“So far, so good. There’s no need to panic. This is what we want, and where we are, we’re very comfortable. We know we’re competing.
“The league is very competitive. There are no easy games, but I don’t think there is any reason to be under pressure. We are competing well, and where we are on the log is ideal. There is a lot of football still to be played.”
