HERENTALS Mabvuku were crowned kings of football among the group’s schools at the annual ball games at ZB Sports Club in the capital yesterday.
The annual tournament sees all collages under the group countrywide take to the field in various ball games with winners in each discipline getting a glittering trophy, brand new sports uniforms and a cool US$2 500 in prize money.
Winners of the tournament, which is now in its fifth year, are decided by virtue of having the most points in the various ball games.
Runners-up Herentals Kwekwe took home the Finance Director’s trophy after raking 24 points.
They trailed Mabvuku by just four points.
Herentals College management committee member Kudakwashe Remba hailed efforts by the group in investing into sport development.
“We are very pleased with the support being given by the board, our vision is to groom these students both in the classroom and even on the field because not every student is gifted in academics,” said Remba.
“The ultimate goal from these games is to develop competitors at all levels — provincially, nationally, regionally and even internationally.”
