IT was huge!
Local Zim dancehall artists and fans united at the much-hyped Soul Jah Love commemoration gala at the Glamis Arena on Saturday.
The unity resulted in show organisers, Chipaz Promotions, hosting a successful event for the late chanter.
Chibaba, as Soul Jah Love, was fondly known, died on February 16, last year.
The gala saw top artists – Freeman, Killer T, Seh Calaz, Tocky Vibes, Enzo Ishall, Silent Killer and Blot – performing in front of a packed Glamis Arena.
The event, which also marked the return of high-profile Zim dancehall events, introduced acts like Culture Love and budding artists from the late Soul Jah Love’s Conquering Family.
Show organiser, Patson Chimbodza, said he was pleased by the huge attendance.
“As a promoter, we believe in numbers and this show’s turnout was good.
“We are happy that fans showed up in numbers to celebrate Soul Jah Love’s legacy,” he said.
“We hope to hold this event annually in appreciation of the good work that he did.
“If Jamaica is still celebrating Bob Marley, we can also do the same and celebrate our own heroes.
“Soul Jah Love is one of the heroes that we need to honour.”
The show attracted some of the capital’s A-Listers, including Scott Sakupwanya, Economic Empowerment Group leader, Mike Chimombe, and Chief J.
These are individuals who are rarely seen at Zim dancehall events but such was the drawing power of the Soul Jah Love commemoration, the trio made its way to Glamis Arena.
Judging by the massive attendance, Soul Jah Love continues to rule the domestic music industry, even from his grave.
