TANAKA “Kante” Shandirwa!
Remember this name, it could be a huge feature of the conversation in the domestic Premiership this season.
He was the star performer in his first match in the Harare Derby on Sunday and helped Dynamos power to a 2-0 victory over CAPS United.
Shandirwa, who is wearing jersey number 44, is fast becoming a very popular man among the DeMbare fans. He is now being compared with former skipper Justice Majabvi.
Even Majabvi himself saluted Shandirwa, in a post he wrote, which he attached his picture when he was captaining Dynamos:
“Don’t worry about the face and the armband, this is jersey number 44 for @OfficialDynamos. The guy dominated the midfield.”
For Shandirwa, playing for Dynamos it’s a dream come true. “People say my body and energy matches that of Kante. I always do extra training at home. After our routine team training, I always do extras alone at home. It gives me endurance and energy and it keeps me going.
“People see the effort that I am putting in and they appreciate it as it helps the team.
“It was always my wish to be involved in these kind of matches as a footballer. God has fulfilled my wish and I am grateful for that.”
Shandirwa said he is looking for more good performances from the team and felt the derby win lifted some pressure off them. “This season I am expecting the team to win more games and see where we will be and I also want to play overseas. This win has lifted some pressure on the team. Most of the guys we are new at the team and at times things get difficult for us to adapt as it is a process so this win was crucial.”
