Hexco scraps Math for 30 courses

THE Higher Education Examination Council has scrapped Ordinary Level Mathematics as an entry requirement for 30 courses offered by polytechnics.

In a circular to all principals of polytechnics, Hexco chair Dr Desire Sibanda said the directive was effective January 1, 2018.

Some of the courses that no longer require O-Level Math are Human Resources Management, Marketing Management, Tourism and Hospitality, Secretarial Studies, Transport Management and Applied Arts.

Dr Sibanda said the move was in sync with international standards.

“Following a Hexco board meeting at (Management Training Bureau) on 22 January 2018, 30 Hexco programmes were reviewed and a decision was made that the programmes do not require a pass in O-Level Mathematics as an entry requirement as is the case regionally and internationally,” he said.
