“24-Hour Theatre Challenge”, where at least six plays running for 10 minutes each will be written, rehearsed and performed within a day.
According to Makuwe, the move is aimed at stimulating creativity within a short period of time and also making scriptwriters to tell stories that they relate to.
“To this end I am inviting scriptwriters to register. We need six writers, a lighting and sound technician, six directors and 12-18 actors (two to three actors per play).
“Those interested in taking part can email me: [email protected]. I will organise some prizes for the best play and best actor/actress,” he said.
Hifa’s theatre line-up has always been action packed with internationally acclaimed plays taking centre stage.
Launched in 1999, Hifa is a six-day annual festival and workshop endeavour that showcases Zimbabwean and international arts and culture in a comprehensive programme comprising theatre, dance, music, circus, street performance, the spoken word and visual arts.
The festival also runs various audience and artistes’ capacity building projects during and after the festival.
