PREPARATIONS for commemorations of the Heroes and Defence Forces Day are going on well amid expectations of high turnouts at the events following Zanu-PF’s resounding victory in the harmonised elections. Harare provincial administrator and chairperson of the organising committee for the Heroes Day Mr Alfred Tome said everything was shaping up for the celebrations to be held at the National Heroes Acre next week.
“We are at an advanced stage with our preparations and we expect a huge turnout at the event so we urge people to come early and be seated by 9.30am.
“We have organised 40 buses to ferry people to the National Heroes Acre and also urge private transporters to assist us in ferrying people to the event,” he said.
Mr Tome said soon after the celebrations at the national shrine people would also proceed to lay wreaths at the Harare Provincial Heroes Acre where over 1 500 gallant sons and daughters of the country are interred.
“We will proceed to lay our wreaths there and then proceed for lunch at Belvedere Teachers College for the widows, widowers and children of the heroes,” he said.
Other commemorations will also be held at various centres across the country’s 10 provinces. Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Community Assistance Week is already under way ahead of the ZDF Day at the National Sports Stadium on Tuesday next week.
