HIGHLANDERS FC legends are set to be honoured in a special awards ceremony for their prowess on the pitch during their heyday, which kept Bosso as a household name.

The awards ceremony, which will be held at Bulawayo Theatre on Saturday, is expected to bring together former players from different eras to be celebrated.

Organised by Stanley Nyathi through his Neighbour Magazine, the event aims to honour former players.

“We decided to appreciate the Highlanders FC former players as they are an important part of the club’s rich history. They played for Highlanders, and their prowess on the pitch not only catapulted their names into stardom but also kept the Highlanders FC brand on everyone’s lips and etched in the annals of history,” said Nyathi.

He said Highlanders was not just a football club but part of Zimbabwe’s heritage and culture.

“We view Highlanders as our culture and heritage, which is why we decided to hold these awards and also raise awareness of the club’s 99-year celebrations. It is also a precursor to the 100-year celebrations pencilled in for next year,” said Nyathi.

He said everyone is invited to the ceremony, which will expected to feature a plethora of former players.

“All the former players will be honoured during the event, and there will be a prize for the ‘Legend of Legends.’ All this will be revealed on the day as we celebrate the former players,” said Nyathi.

“We invite everyone to join us on Saturday at Bulawayo Theatre for the awards ceremony, which starts at 5 PM. We expect our chiefs from their different jurisdictions. Former players such as Abraham Maseko, Thabani Masawi, Tapuwa Kapini, Sizabantu Khoza, Mkhokheli Dube, and Zenzo Moyo are among those expected to attend.”

Nyathi said a football match will also be held on Sunday, where the former players will square off against a local team.
