HIGHLANDERS have called for unity, respect and an end to all forms of discrimination as the nation commemorates Independence Day.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Bulawayo giants said they stand with all Zimbabweans in celebrating the values of freedom, unity and self-determination.
“As the nation commemorates Zimbabwe Independence Day, Highlanders Football Club joins all Zimbabweans in celebrating the values of freedom, unity, and self-determination that define our country,” said the club in their statement.
“In this landmark year, as the Club marks 100 years of existence, we recognise that our journey has been shaped by people from all tribes, cultures, and backgrounds. Highlanders FC stands as a reflection of Zimbabwe itself—diverse, resilient, and united by a shared identity and purpose.
The club, which is marking 100 years of existence this year, said its history has been shaped by people from diverse backgrounds, making it a true reflection of Zimbabwe’s identity.
Bosso said their centenary celebrations are meant to bring people together and not divide them, reaffirming the club’s position as a home for all.
The club also strongly condemned any form of discrimination, including tribal or racial abuse, as well as exclusionary chants and songs at football matches.
“Such conduct has no place in our stands, our culture, or our future,” read part of the statement.
Highlanders urged supporters and the nation at large to use the Independence celebrations as a moment to promote unity and pride.
