HIGHLANDERS are due to leave for Malawi a day after the February 15 Jairos Jiri Charity Shield Trophy to be played at Barbourfields Stadium.
“Nothing has been finalised there,” was the chief executive officer Denzil Mnkandla’s response when sought for comment on Monday Morning.
However impeccable sources at the club said Highlanders will undertake a 10-day tour of Malawi, a training camp meant to build team spirit, cohesion on the field and try combinations without the prying eyes of the local media.
“As part of team bonding, the team will travel to Malawi, preparations are underway and the technical team is keen on the tour and they are confident that they will achieve their goals of team bonding and adapt to playing away from home as they will play two top Malawi elite division sides.
“We are hoping that the final 30 for 2026 will have been finalised by the time we get to that date so that they polish up their preparations for 2026,” said a source at Bosso.
A number of Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League teams have set camp outside the country with champions Scottland in Eswatini, FC Platinum in Zambia, Simba Bhora in Botswana.
Highlanders trip would be made possible by funding from all-weather club friend, businessman and philanthropist Wicknell Chivayo.
