THE National Association of Secondary School Heads Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, has quickly moved in to arrest poor performances at national level.

Bulawayo and Matabeleland North have consistently been among the bottom three in national athletics events.
Despite better infrastructure among which are two tartan tracks, one at White City and the other one at the National University of Science and Technology, results have eluded the province.

Cain Ncube, who is now the metropolitan province’s athletics secondary schools boss, said they had decided to arrest the situation by introducing a series of events to sharpen athletes.
He said the first event was held last year in December and that a number of schools had sent in their athletes to participate.
On Sunday they had the second at White City which enjoyed a good field.

Ncube said they look forward to at least one more before the March 4-5 provincial finals set for White City.

“We are deciding to have a change in our way of doing things, we are going to have a number of selection series, we started last year on the 12th of December,” said Ncube who is also the Sobukazi High School headmaster.

This year’s national finals will be in Harare.
