CRESCENT Sports Club was abuzz with excitement on Thursday as former Highlanders players gathered for a Boxing Day lunch, which coincided with the birthday of Jerry Sibanda, a Bosso son.
Speaking on behalf of the players, Colsen Mabeza highlighted the Highlanders Former Players Association’s mission and objectives.
“We encourage former Highlanders players to come together and support one another in various ways, such as pursuing coaching and administrative courses. We also engage in community service initiatives, including visiting and cleaning the graves of our former greats,” he said.
“As former Highlanders players, we recognise the importance of supporting one another, both on and off the pitch. Our association is built on principles of camaraderie, mutual respect, and a shared passion for the beautiful game.

“We are proud to have received recognition from the club and to have the support of our members. We look forward to continued growth as an association and to make a positive impact on the lives of our members and the wider community. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our members for their dedication and commitment to our association. I would also like to encourage all former Highlanders players to join us and be part of this exciting journey.”
This year, the association received two tombstones from Straight Suppliers and Distributors. The tombstones were erected on the graves of Majuta Mpofu and Dumisani Ngulube.
Notable members of the association in attendance on Thursday included Zenzo Moyo, Netsai Moyo, Douglas Mloyi, Madinda Ndlovu, Kenny Dzowa, Sam Sibanda, Itai Masawi, Tanny Banda, Daniel Mabhayila, Shadreck Nyoni, Jerry Sibanda, Amini Soma Phiri, Gift Lunga Snr, Siza Khoza, Marion Dube, and Johannes Tshuma.
The association is scheduled to hold elections on January 18 to select a new executive committee.

As the association continues to grow and evolve, its members remain committed to supporting one another and giving back to their community.
The gathering of former Highlanders players serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting one another, both on and off the pitch. By continuing to support one another, former players can build a stronger, more resilient community that benefits not only themselves but also their families, friends, and the wider community.
Former players have a unique understanding of the triumphs and tribulations that come with a football career. They can offer valuable guidance, mentorship, and encouragement to one another, helping to alleviate the pressures and stresses that often accompany life after football.
The Highlanders Former Players Association is a shining example of the power of collective support.
By coming together and sharing their experiences, expertise, and resources, members can tap into a wealth of knowledge and expertise.
