Highlanders, Ngezi Platinum in half time stalemate

Nkosilathi Sibanda at Barbourfields

IT’S half time at Barbourfields Stadium as Highlanders and Ngezi Platinum are yet to find the net.

So far, the odds seem to be favour of Highlanders, whose attacking plot has been consistent but, lacking the killer instinct.

The home side charged in the first minute, earning a corner kick, off a good run of play from Darlington Mukuli, whose ball had caught up with

Benjamin Adeogun. The effort from the corner kick yielded nothing.

From that moment, the match had a balance from both sides, Ngezi Platinum tried to contain Bosso’s play in the midfield.

In the sixth minute, Bosso’s Lawrence Mhlanga was given a yellow card by referee Kwanele Manenda as Ngezi Platinum had went with speed upfront, with Qadr Amin getting the better of Mhlanga. In that tussle, Mhlanga shirt pulled Amin.

Ngezi Platinum’s Malvin Gaki made sure he kept the Bosso midfield in check. Bosso’s Rainsome Pavari was booked a yellow after he pulled down

Brooklyn Katumba the centre of the park, in the 10th minute.

Royn Nyamono almost netted in a ball that was well crossed by Adeogun in the 13th minute. His header, however, went wide.

Mongameli Tshuma had a quiet stint in the first stanza. He played it safe interchanging passes with Pavari, Nyamono and Prince Ndlovu. Keeping his spot on the with, Kudakwashe Mahachi is industrious.

Pressure piled on Ngezi Platinum between the 38th and 42nd minutes as Highlanders raided and not willing to let go the ball in the goal area. Bosso had three corner kicks on the trot but, none were a threat. Ngezi Platinum survived and regrouped.

Equally, Ngezi’s charges were visible on the attack. Adeogun got another chance at goal in the 24th minute. His shot, targeted at the far post, went too wide.

The visitors’ workhorses in the first 45 minutes were Tanaka Munemo, Spenser Mugarini, Katumba and Orlando Zvavarevi.

When the teams return from the breather, it will be a reset and chance to snatch that elusive goal.
