Zimbabwe sprinter Tshuma awaits surgery following femur fracture

ZIMBABWE sprinter Methembe Tshuma remains at hospital and is due to undergo a procedure on Monday.

The young Zimbabwe sprinter suffered a broken femur on Saturday while in the semis of the 200m in which he had a false start at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Coach Phakamile Lisimati and members of the Zimbabwe team have been visiting the athlete. Medical staff have been attending to Tshuma and he had blood samples taken ahead of Monday’s surgical procedure.

“Blood samples have been collected to prepare for operation probably tomorrow (Monday),” said Lisimati.

Meanwhile he reports that morale is high among the five athletes still in the competition.

The 4x400m relay team of Thandazani Ndhlovu, Gerren Muwishi, Dennis Hove and Leeford Zuze and 400m hurdler Ashley Miller will take part in the final on Sunday afternoon.
