HIGHLANDERS aspiring executive secretary Siphatho Ncube has described himself as a Bosso son seeking elevation having served in the club’s structures before.
Ncube was the committee member under the Ernest “Maphepha” Sibanda led Bosso executive from 2006 until the beginning of 2009 when he decided not to seek re-election.
A Bosso member since 1996, Ncube said for him, his being at Highlanders has not been influenced by seeking a position as he has offered assistance to previous executives.
“I have been assisting Highlanders since 1996 when Wyatt Mpofu was chairman. I was coaching Highlanders Royals then and decided to become a member of the club. I enjoyed a close relationship with Kennedy Ndebele even before he became an executive member,’’ Ncube said.
He believes that he learnt a lot in his professional career over the years, things that he can bring to Highlanders for the betterment of the club. The 47-year-old is a finance and administration manager at a local Non- Governmental Organisation.
“I have grown up, I have learnt a lot of things, I have learnt a lot of strategic planning in my professional career. What kind of systems can be put in place for an organisation to survive, preparing an institution for any kind of scrutiny. That kind of experience, together with my love for my club, I can use it to preserve my club’s legacy,’’ said Ncube a career finance and developmental person.
Someone with a passion for junior player development, Ncube has coached the Highlanders Under-18 and Under-19 over the years. Some of the boys who have passed through his hands are Lewis Ncube, Lawrence Mhlanga, Godfrey Makaruse, Charlton Siamalonga and Ozias Zibande.
Ncube declared that he does not belong to any grouping at Highlanders, with the love for his club his biggest motivation. He is prepared to continue playing a role at Highlanders, whether elected today or not.
“I don’t know what the other candidates are bringing, what I am bringing at Highlanders is that I have always been there. Whether I am elected or not, I will still continue serving my club. I am at Highlanders because of votes, I have no faction, I am just Highlanders,’’ Ncube said.
He is confident of victory as he has spoken and met club members who have given him their thoughts on where they want Highlanders to be.
“I have been speaking to club members, I went to Gwanda to get their ideas on where they want to see their club. We have to come up with a framework for player development. Highlanders also need a recruitment policy that ties players to the club,’’ he said.
Ncube is competing against Nkululeko Ndlovu and Israel Moyo for the executive secretary’s position. Kenneth Mhlophe will be confirmed as the club’s new executive chairman unchallenged following Ernest Sibanda’s disqualification. Incumbent committee member, Wisdom Mabhena is being challenged by Peacot Hadebe, Charles “Six One” Moyo and Victoria Falls-based Silandulo Sibanda. — @Mdawini_29
