HIGHLANDERS have finally broken their silence on the continued delay of the arrival of the team’s bus bought by leading funeral assurance institution, Nyaradzo. Almost six months after Highlanders chairman Peter Dube told members during the club’s annual general meeting that the bus would be delivered soon, the luxury coach is yet to find its way to 50 Robert Mugabe Way where Highlanders offices are located.
But yesterday, Dube gave a confident response to the puzzle.
“Very soon we should be receiving that bus,” he said.
Earlier on, Nyaradzo Funeral Services managing director Webster Chikengezha had told Chronicle Sport that his company had always been ready to deliver as promised.
“Dynamos have just received their bus. As for Highlanders ask their chairman Peter Dube why they have not because the bus is there,” said Chikengezha who is also the secretary of the Bulawayo giants’ biggest rivals on the domestic scene, Dynamos.
The Highlanders executive on Wednesday night held a feed back meeting with its board on the delays and Dube yesterday said all the paperwork that needed to be done was almost ready.
“The paperwork that was meant to be attended to is almost done and very soon, we will be driving that bus,” he said.
The Highlanders executive is reported to have been reluctant to “blindly” accept the bus offer lest they found themselves at loggerheads with their principal sponsors BancABC who have been their lifeline in the last three years.
Repeated efforts to contact BancABC’s managing director Hashmon Matemera were fruitless yesterday as his personal assistant said her boss was out of office on business while his mobile number rang unanswered continuously.
Social sites have been awash with claims that the bus has since been delivered with innovative fans even posting pictures of the bus with Highlanders and Nyaradzo logos.
