THE Highlanders Victoria Falls Supporters chapter has resolved to adopt the club’s Under-15 team for next season.
Butholezwe Mlilo, the treasurer of the supporters grouping disclosed that as a long term project they had decided that they will source funding for the juniors. According to Mlilo, this will cost $8 800 for next season and members have indicated their commitment to the project. The chapter has already secured playing kit for the Bosso juniors.
“The other long term project we have discussed is the adoption of a junior team and we have earmarked the Under-15s. We are looking at various ways on how to raise money for the juniors sponsorship programme.
“We have already secured full sponsorship for one kit. The sponsorship programme will involve provision of training equipment, food for the players during matches and transport for players during training and games. From our budget exercise we think this will cost $8 800 for the next season. We will provide a progress report in the coming days on how we are progressing with this but we have the backing and commitment from the chapter members,’’ said Mlilo.
The biggest priority for the Victoria Falls chapter is assisting Highlanders to register their various trademarks because they feel this has the potential to raise revenue. The chapter also hopes to raise money through monthly contributions by members on a three-month period with the aim to put together $2 400 by the end of the year.
“Priority for us is to see to it that the club registers the various trademarks that we have. We feel that registration of trademarks for the club is extremely important.
“This will help the club to gain control, protect and regulate how the various names and logos are used. This is a potential huge revenue stream for the club in the sale of merchandise and other souvenirs.
“We are currently fundraising for this through chapter members monthly contributions over a three month period and the aim is to raise $2 400 required by December. This will be once off,’’ Mlilo said.
The chapter is also engaged in raising $1 250 for the Highlanders’ away fixture against Hwange that will go towards hosting the team in Victoria Falls or providing incentives as the season heads to an end.
Led by Morgan “Gazza” Dube, the Victoria Falls chapter was officially launched in August this year.
It is believed to be the fastest growing in terms of Highlanders members recruitment drive.
