FOR the third game in a row, Bosso failed to score in a game they were held to a frustrating goalless draw by bottom-placed Kwekwe United.
It was another afternoon of dominance without an end product, as Highlanders threw everything at the hosts at Bata Stadium yesterday.
But they just couldn’t break down a side that calls the bottom of the PSL log home.
Despite forcing three corner kicks inside the first 15 minutes and dictating large periods of possession, Bosso’s misfiring forwards picked nothing.
Never Rauzhi could’ve eased the pressure with an early opener but blazed his effort over the bar after being played through.
Kwekwe United, to their credit, were disciplined and defiant. They kept their shape and stayed compact, often threatening on the counter. Against the run of play, Takudzwa Chimhowa forced a save from Bosso goalkeeper Reward Muza with a tame effort midway through the first half.
The second half mirrored the first, Highlanders continued to probe and Kwekwe continued to frustrate.
Substitute Reason Sibanda had a penalty appeal waved away in the 72nd minute after appearing to be tripped inside the area, while Nqobile Ndlovu missed a golden chance minutes later, heading wide from close range.
Sibanda was denied again when his goal-bound header was cleared off the line by Andile Taruvinga in the dying stages, and Kwekwe nearly snatched a dramatic winner at the death, but Muza pulled off a brilliant double save to deny Marlon Nyawaranda.
“It was always going to be difficult playing against a team that is at the bottom,” said Highlanders caretaker coach Try Ncube. “It was not a guarantee that we’d pick up maximum points, but we came here confident. We created a lot of chances but once again failed to convert.”
The point lifts Bosso to 24, leaving them ninth on the log, far below the standards the Bulawayo giants set for themselves at the start of the season.
For Kwekwe United, it was a well-earned result and a potential turning point.
“It’s a good starting point for the team,” said coach Masimba Dinyero. “The youngsters played well. This game was motivation enough for the boys and I’m sure in the next match we’ll do even better.”
