FORMER Dynamos captain Augustine Mbara and fellow Zimbabwean Charlton Mashumba were yesterday officially unveiled as newly promoted ABSA Premiership side Highlands Park players.
The Zimbabwe duo were part of the 12 players that were presented to the media by the modest Johannesburg side which returns to the South Africa Premiership after spending several years playing in the lower divisions.
Mbara, who signed a two-year contract and Mashumba will join former Zimbabwe skipper at the club Tapuwa Kapini.
The ex-Warriors goalkeeper was the captain of the side during their campaign in the second tier league which culminated in qualification play-offs.
Mashumba is coming from Jomo Cosmos where he made 27 appearances last season and scored seven goals. He was also a member of the Zimbabwe squad for the recent COSAFA Cup tournament in Namibia.
Highlands Park also signed Zambian international Collins Mbesuma who was also unveiled alongside Brandon Theron, Khethukuthula Zwane, Edwin Sitayitayi, JP van der Merwe, Seun Ledwaba, Junior Sibande, Thanduyise Khuboni, Eddie Ngalo and Botswana international Lebogang Ditsele who was signed from Township Rollers.
Mbesuma was the Absa Premiership Golden Boot winner last season with 14 league goals under the belt.
The club’s chairman Larry Brookstone said the new players will be integrated into Allan Freese’s squad to make a complement of 30 players for the new season.
He also dismissed rumours that the club could be sold.
