Highway armed robbers arrested

Police have arrested three people who are suspected to be part of four armed robbers who pounced on passengers in a Beitbridge-bound Blue Circle bus and got away with more than US$8 600 and 62 000 rands.
The suspects also got away with cellphones.
National police spokesman, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of the three suspects and said they are assisting the police with investigations.
The suspects allegedly posed as genuine passengers and boarded a bus that left Harare with 45 passengers and 2 crew members on board at around 9.45 pm on July 17.
At around 2 am, one of the suspects allegedly signalled to the conductor that he wanted to disembark as he had reached his destination at the 120km peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway.
After getting off the bus, he allegedly produced a black pistol and pointed it at the conductor, ordering him to get into the bus.
The other three suspects who had remained in the bus stood up and produced okapi knives, demanding cash and other valuables.
The bus driver was ordered to pull off the road for about 500 metres into the bush.
All female passengers were ordered to get off the bus, while males remained inside lying down.
After looting the money and valuables, one of the suspects allegedly fired two shots into the air before the gang got in a vehicle that had been parked behind the bus.
