A RUTHLESS gang that turned a Beitbridge detour into a danger zone has been busted after a months-long robbery spree targeting motorists.

Police arrested Bornman Ziweni (37), Believe Shumba (40), David Ratsauka (31), Peter Chinhimbiti (25) and Delight Gwanyanya (33) for a series of violent highway robberies.

CID national spokesperson Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri said between April and July this year, the gang pounced on slow-moving vehicles along the Beitbridge–Gwanda Road detour.
“They would jump onto vehicles, cut hydraulic and fuel pipes, force drivers to stop and then rob them of valuables,” she said.

Their reign of terror included:
• May 10, 2025 – Attacked a Scania truck driver at 10pm along the detour.
• May 19, 2025 – Blocked Mazunga detour, robbing a truck driver of US$700, R2 000 and a cellphone.
• June 15, 2025 – Posed as passengers before robbing a taxi driver of his vehicle and US$450.
• June 17, 2025 – Used same trick on another taxi driver, stealing his vehicle and R6 000.

Both stolen vehicles were later found dumped.

The suspects are now linked to eight Beitbridge robberies and two more in Mwenezi. Police are appealing to victims to come forward and identify recovered property.
