A COWDRAY Park man allegedly pinched two cellphones from a Good Samaritan who had given him a lift from Kwekwe to Bulawayo.
Lovemore Mabhunu, 35, pocketed a Blackberry torch and a Nokia 1616 and fled after he was left in the vehicle by the driver, Jackson Kasvosve, 39, of Mzilikazi while he was helping the wounded at the United Bulawayo Hospitals.
Mabhunu appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya facing theft charges.
He pleaded guilty and was remanded in custody to today. Prosecuting, Charles Danda told the court that on October 2 at around 11PM, Kasvosve who is employed at Valere Marketing Lobenvale as a truck driver arrived in Kwekwe coming from Bulawayo.
“While in Kwekwe he gave Mabhunu a lift to Bulawayo,” said Danda.
“Along the way they came across an accident at Shangani River at around 2AM and Kasvosve offered to ferry the injured persons to United Bulawayo Hospitals,” said Danda.
The court heard that they arrived at the hospital at around 4AM and Kasvosve aided the wounded inside the hospital and Mabhunu was left seated in the truck.
Kasvosve discovered the offence as soon as he returned to his truck and made a report to the police.
On Wednesday he came across Mabhunu along 15th Avenue and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo street and alerted the police who apprehended him.
