Hindus celebrate Diwali

THE Hindu community in Bulawayo will today join others in other parts of the world in celebrating the Diwali Festival of Lights.

The main function for Bulawayo will be held at the Brahma Kumaris Raja Yoga Centre in Suburbs.

The festival which is one of the most popular Hindu activities is called the Holy Festival of the Light/ Diwali/ Deepawali which symbolises the significance of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.

Those who attend the festival say it is more than just a celebration of lights and fireworks but an opportunity to forgive those that they would have wronged.

After the celebrations, the Hindu will also celebrate their New Year tomorrow.

During the celebration, temples, homes, shops and office buildings are illuminated with bright lights and candles and various food stuffs are shared among the Hindu community.

The height of the celebrations are on the third day which coincide with the darkest night of the lunar moon.
