BULAWAYO’S aspiring hip hop dancers are set to benefit from a dance workshop which will be hosted by Dance First International Company on 30 November at Bradfield Shopping Centre. The workshop will be facilitated by renowned dancer, Tendai Guzha — a member of Harare based popular dance group, High Definition (HD) and Ricco Andrews from popular Bulawayo group Antivirus.
In an interview, Tendai Guzha said he was on a nationwide tour giving lectures on hip hop dance routines.
“As a holder of the South African Dance Teachers Association (SADTA) certificate, I have taken it upon myself to spread the knowledge I have acquired. I want to help educate talented youths around the country on the art of dancing,” he said.
Guzha said everyone was free to attend as he was looking forward to be of assistance to the country’s hip hop dance movement.
“There are a number of youngsters that need grooming and I am willing to do that. This is the only way the hip hop scene can grow,” Guzha said.
He said he grew up with a passion for dancing which led him to form the group High Definition around 2004.
“My family only began believing in what I was doing around 2011 after we performed at the Big Brother Africa live eviction show with Cindy and curtain-raised for Sean Kingston,” Guzha said.
He said the group was named HD because of their dance routines which are clear, precise, balanced and descriptive, without clutter.
“We dance with passion, dedication and have become very experienced with the various shows we have done all over the country,” Guzha said.
He said they want to use the workshop to educate dancers on how they can change the negative perspective that is held by many on dance.
“We want to prove to people that dance can indeed be a career,” Guzha said.
