Hip-hopper Msonzah aims for the sky

The 21-year-old comes from a family of artistes, being brother to Andrew Msonzah, the former member of successful boy band Trinity and actor Kudzai Msonzah, who plays Barry on local TV series “Go Chanaiwa Go”. He, however, insisted that he is not just going with the flow.

“Music has been my thing for a long time and although my first recording was at the age of 17 in 2012, I had been rapping in the streets for a long time. Of course, my brothers have inspired me, I am my own man,” he said.

The young rapper,  who has so far compiled five smashing urban hits since last year, has promised that his name will be counted among the best once his music is unleashed to the nation.

“My songs are equally incredible and I have taken the time to work with a number of producers on the tracks. My hits include Lil Wizzy’s remix to the song ‘John’, Swag Team anthem, ‘Way to the Top’ that features Kevin Kellz, and ‘It’s On’,” he said.

The youngster also takes pride in his lyrical wizardry, claiming that he writes for himself as well as upcoming artistes on the local hip-hop scene. He also spoke of his plans to make equally smashing videos of his music in South Africa.

“I am on my way to the top and I have big plans to put my music out there. I’m in the process of engaging seasoned artistes for collaborations. It is also inevitable that I will work with former Trinity member, Andrew, who is now doing his own thing as a producer,” he said.

Msonzah said he looks up to the late hip-hop pioneers, King Pin (who put the country’s rap on the map), MC Chita, Junior Brown and Black Bird.
