HIPPO Valley proved to be the team to beat this season in the Inter Cities Hockey League weekend action in both men and women’s category at Bulawayo’s Khumalo Hockey Stadium.
A total of nine teams battled it out in the two days of action that started on Saturday and concluded on Sunday.
Taking part in the men’s category were Hippo Valley, Nust, Rams, Bulawayo Hockey Club (BHC) and KHC
In the women’s category four teams, Nust, BHC, Hippo Valley and KHC fought to outdo each other.
Hippo Valley men’s team now sit on the apex of the log standings with 25 points after nine rounds of play.
They are now seven points ahead of second placed BHC who are on 16 points. Ranms are in position three with 10 points, two ahead of fourth placed KHC.
Nust anchor the log standings with a paltry two points.
In the women’s pool, Hippo Valley are at the top with 22 points, a massive 12 ahead of second placed BHC.
Nust Ladies are on number three with 10 points while KHC juniors are fourth with six points. Sitting at the bottom of the table are BHC juniors.
Inter-Cities Hockey League chairman Kays Kanyangarara said they are giving more exposure to their teams.
“We have two leagues which are the men’s pool and women’s. Most of the players are professional. We play in a round-robin format. All the matches are played at Khumalo Hockey Stadium, it is all about giving more to our players, giving them more exposure. It’s very competitive for both pools. There has been so much improvement from the traditional weaker teams, they are coming up. We see the quality of players improving
