LAST Sunday’s historic show at entertainment joint, Pick and Save Superrette, courted controversy after impatient revellers started throwing missiles on the stage following the delay of musicians — Winky D, Jah Prayzah and Soul Jah Love to come on stage.
Rising dancehall musician, Tocky Vibes, had performed well after jumping onto the stage around 10pm belting out songs like Mhai among the crowd’s favourites, but where were the other three musicians when time to meet their fans came? The show promoter, Isau Mupfumi, said the three were booked at a local hotel and none of them was prepared to precede each other possibly because of pride or supremacy in their respective genres.
“No one was ready to perform second between the three guys. Because of this, fans became impatient and started throwing missiles.
“According to our arrangement, the show was supposed to start at 8pm, but it went on to start two hours late because of arrogance on the musicians’ side. They were overwhelmed by the comfort of the hotel (name supplied),” he said.
“We would, however, like to thank thousands of revellers who attended the show and made it a success,” he added.
The Tsviriyo hitmaker, Jah Prayzah later came on stage at 11pm, while self proclaimed dancehall king, Winky D followed about two hours later.
Man of the moment, Soul Jah Love put the icing on the cake during the wee hours of the following day till around 4am when the show curtained down.
The historic show can, however, be described as one for the archives in terms of crowd attendance and artistes performances. In fact, there was also drama outside the venue as security personnel failed to tame the restless crowd who wanted to be part of the mega show and lost control of their vicious police dogs.
They gnawed the show promoter hardly seven days after a member of the media was also bitten.
