THE History Teachers Association of Zimbabwe is set to hold its conference in Harare next month.

The conference will be held under the theme, “The 21st Century History Teacher and Reconstruction of African History”.

The aim of the conference is to bring together history teachers to discuss issues related to the subject.

Speaking to H-Metro, the History Teachers Association of Zimbabwe president, Manners Musongelwa, said the engagement was aimed at finding ways to incorporate Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in history teaching.

“We are looking forward to more discovery, more historical researches, more debates, more integration of ICT, especially in the 21st century.

“We want ICT to be integrated into our teaching.

“We want a 21st century teacher and also to do away with that lecture method that used to happen in the ‘80s in the ‘90s,” said Muso.

The historian highlighted that the conference will unpack new research discoveries, more debates and new concepts that will transform the history subject across Africa.

“We are looking forward to seeing new teachers, new concepts being adopted, new methodologies being adopted by the teachers and new exciting methods being suggested.

“We want to encourage more research among historians.

“We will discuss topics that need to be researched, it’s going to assist us in the study of history and to bring new ideas about what should be done so that our history subject becomes more exciting.

“Teachers in the country, and the southern region of Africa, will be sharing ideas about the history of their countries,” he said.

Under normal circumstances, the conference is held annually.

However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, the conference could not be held in the past two years.
