History could repeat itself for POY

When he topped the list of nominations at last yearsaï¿½ï¿½ Zim Hip-hop Awards, Bulawayoaï¿½ï¿½s Hip-hop pioneering kingpin Proud Of You (POY) faced humiliation at the night of the awards which were held at Bulawayo Music Academy as he bagged nothing in all the five categories he was nominated in.

The controversy and criterion on which the panel of judges chose the winners was not traced as the founder of the awards Beefy Harrison failed to disclose them.

The same fever has gripped the Mabhomba hitmaker who is bound to face the same fate of humiliation as he is the only Bulawayo male artiste to be nominated two times at this yearaï¿½ï¿½s Changamire Hip-hop Festival Awards, a brainchild of the Zim Hip-hop Awards.

Compared to the Zim Hip-hop awards, the infant Changamire is dominated by a majority of artistes who were the main winners at the Zim Hip-hop Awards like Kikky Badass who is nominated four times, Tehn Diamond, Take Fizzo, T Gonz and Mudiwa, to mention a few.

Nominated for Best Male artiste and Album of the Year for his Short Cuts to Heaven offering, POY, who took the Zim hip-hop incident as sabotage, revealed he had hopes to bring the awards home.

aï¿½?What happened at the Zim Hip-hop Awards last month was clear sabotage. Even though I was not favoured to get an award in all the five categories I was nominated in, I will go to the Changamire Festival awards with hopes that I scoop both awards and bring them home,aï¿½? said POY.

Changamire Awards, which are in their third edition will be held on 26 January at Harareaï¿½ï¿½s classy Club 1+1 hosted by the award winning stand-up comedian Doc Vikela alongside Kikky Badass.

The 2017 Zim Hip-hop Awards Best Organiser Tafadzwa aï¿½?Zimboyaï¿½? Muchechetere who is the founder of the Changamire Festival Awards said preparations for the event were going well as planned.

aï¿½?All is set for the third edition of the Changamire awards. This year is an all-black event and we have so far managed to convince a South Africa-based artiste to appear as our guest. Itaï¿½ï¿½s a surprise for the fans,aï¿½? said Zimboy.
