The Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) has pledged to assist the City of Harare by providing a locally-developed, internationally-recognised Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to tackle the city’s financial management challenges.
This comes amid reports that the local authority rejected a locally-developed US$350 000 ERP system in favour of a multi-million-dollar foreign alternative.
The pledge was made when HIT Registrar, Mr Herbert Njonga, and the Director of Local Authorities Digital Systems (LADS) Africa, a HIT start-up, testified before the Harare Commission of Inquiry.
“As a public entity and in line with our mandate, as the Harare Institute of Technology we are available to assist the City of Harare through the provision of a home-grown but internationally recognised system to address this problem,” Mr Njonga told the commission.
“HIT has deployed the current solution to the City of Mutare and currently about 83 local authorities have at least one module from the LADS System.”
The commission had requested HIT to submit its findings on the governance of Harare City Council.
HIT presented the findings and went on to propose a solution to address the council’s financial mismanagement.
