ZIMBABWE’S fight to overcome barriers in maintaining continuity of care for people living with HIV/Aids is bearing fruit.
UNAids country director, Sophia Mukasa, said there is a need for engagement and mobilisation of communication in communities across the country.
“We should fight insecurities and misconceptions in our communities,” she said.
She said the number of people accessing drugs is on the rise.
She said about 95.6 percent of people living with HIV know their status, and among these, 95.4 percent are receiving treatment.
“This is quite commendable.
“We are pledging towards the success of ICASA which will be held next year in the country so that the country knows more about the disease,” she added. Ministry of Health and Child Care Aids and TB programme director, Dr Owen Mugurungi, said:
“The impact of HIV/Aids in Africa is felt by most people.
“Recently, the whole world suffered from the Covid-19 pandemic so we have to move on from that and find ways of curbing the disease.
“We are grateful to our leadership, which has largely contributed to the fight against the disease,” Mukasa said.
