THE Chivhu woman, who slit the throats of her four children over her husband’s infidelity, claimed temporary insanity at the commission of the offence.
Emildah Marazani’s trial kicked off yesterday at the High Court where she pleaded for a special verdict of not guilty.
She is facing four murder charges.
Through her lawyer, Marazani claimed she suffers from psychosis, hence her aggression towards her minor children.
“I was in an abusive relationship, my husband cheated on me countless times and, on the day in question, I was confused.
“My mental illness sometimes forces me to act aggressively because I will be having confused thoughts.
“I regret it because I ended up killing my own children,” Marazani told the court.
“If the court is pleased, I am willing to be sent to any mental institution for help,” she added.
The State led its case through Marazani’s husband, Lameck Brande, who admitted that the two were having problems.
“She had mood swings and that’s why we had unending problems in our marriage.
“Yes, I had extra marital affairs because of her actions and I know nothing with regards to her background.
“It was a painful experience to come back home to find all my children dead, but I think I also pushed her to do what she did,” said Brande.
The trial continues.
