HIGHLANDERS Panthers remain on course to defend the Matabeleland Rugby Football Board Bulawayo Under-21 Rugby Cup after seeing off Matabeleland Warriors at Hartsfield Rugby Ground yesterday.

Panthers, 52-0 victorious over Bulldogs last Saturday, scored three tries, one conversion while Warriors only managed one try. An unconverted try by Thamsanqa Dube gave Panthers a 5-0 lead heading into half-time.

Second-half tries by Brian Ndlovu and Dube, complemented by a conversion booted in by Noah Muunganirwa ensured Panthers of victory. Warriors got their only points of the match from an Emmanuel Zangari second-half try.

Bulldogs recorded their first win of the tournament with a 37-0 triumph over Nyambosi in an earlier fixture at the same venue.

Panthers now have two wins in the pre-season competition while Bulldogs and Old Miltonians, who had a bye yesterday, have one win apiece.

MRFB, in partnership with Zimbo, Theodore Weale and Unforgettable are some of the sponsors of the pre-season competition. Various partners have sponsored the tournament, the main cup, individual prizes and the participating teams.

The tournament continues with the preliminary round on Saturday, the semi-finals on 28 January and the finals on 4 February.
