MATABELELAND North Nash Under-20 boys football champions Hlangabeza High School defended their title as provincial champions after they defeated Manjolo High School of Binga 11-10 on penalties during the provincial finals held at Gloag High School on Saturday. The tournament attracted nine secondary schools from all the seven districts in Matabeleland north.

Gloag High School sports director Michael Moyo said the champions deserved to retain their title as they displayed purposeful football and will now proceed to the national finals that will be held at Prince Edward High School in the capital next month.

“They deserve to be our provincial representatives and I hope they do us proud in Harare,” said Moyo.
Gloag High School was supposed to play host to the national finals but it is believed the sponsors chose to have the finals held in the capital instead.

On their way to the final, Hlangabeza High met Nkayi High School in the semi-final and beat them 2-1 while Manjolo overcame Hwange’s Chilisa Secondary School 3-2 to set up a date with the defending champions.
