DUTCH Highlanders coach Erol Akbay says it will not be feasible for him to consider luring his fellow countrymen to come and play for Bosso as his club pays “peanuts’’ compared to what players’ in his homeland get. “Getting players from Holland to play here? It is not possible. They get 500 000 Euros as their salaries and they cannot come here to get $45 . . . they are not cheap,” said the soft spoken Akbay responding to questions on his second transfer window plans.
The mid-season transfer window which enables clubs to bolster their squads opens on 1 July and closes on the 31st of the same month. “I have seen a number of good players from different local clubs. However, I cannot mention them because they are contracted to their respective clubs. If I get asked if I need them, I will say yes,” said Akbay.
Bosso are facing a possible striker’s crisis as South Africa bound Knox Mutizwa is set to join his new paymasters Bidvest Wits on 1 July. As if this is not enough, ageing club returnee Ralph “Banolila” Matema has been on the sidelines for a couple of weeks owing to a nagging injury and the development has seen young Prince Dube (19) being thrown into the deep end to play alongside utility and seasoned attacking midfielders Bruce Kangwa and Rahman Kutsanzira among others.
