FOOTBALL legend Gibson Homela celebrated his 79th birthday on Sunday afternoon with family and friends.

Zimbabwe Saints trustee Vincent Pamire detailed some of their football journeys with the club and how he later begun to believe in ‘Juju’.

Homela was identified at Gafa Grounds in 1963 alongside Alick Mwanza and William Sibanda who he was with at Fletcher High School and brought to play for Mashonaland FC in Bulawayo.

When Saints split in 1965 to Mashonaland FC and Mashonaland United, he drifted with the former who later changed to Zimbabwe Saints in 1975.

He started off as a striker and changed to defence.

Homela represented Rhodesia and Zimbabwe.

After retirement he coached the national team and several clubs.
