Honda Fit 2015: A car to watch out for

Tinashe Makichi Motoring Reporter
Honda has managed to infiltrate the Zimbabwean market by extensively marketing its Honda Fit to suit the affordability of low middle to lower middle class of society.

Of all the brands from the Honda family, the Fit has so far managed to quench the thirst of many in terms of car ownership. Honda has come up with a more improved Honda Fit brand which is certainly going to make waves in the local market.

The 2015 Honda Fit is a complete upgrade of the previous brand with abundant cargo space; a roomy back seat and a comfortable ride make the redesigned 2015 Honda Fit a stand-out among small hatchbacks compared to the outgoing Honda Fit 2014.

Many may be surprised by this writer’s choice of cars but it is within my interest as someone who hails from the middle class to review cars that anyone in this country can afford regardless of models.

This time the Honda Fit has perfectly managed to fit the grade and according to the manufacturing company, Honda Fit 2015 has superb fuel economy ratings.

Critics agree that the four-cylinder Honda Fit feels quicker than many sub-compact cars, though some note that the engine is noisy in some situations. The standard six-speed manual transmission makes the 2015 Fit fun to drive, while the optional continuously variable transmission is generally smooth and responsive. Equipped with the CVT, the base Fit gets an EPA-estimated 33/41 mpg city/highway, which is superb for the class.

The 2015 Fit handles nimbly, but isn’t as athletic or fun to drive as the outgoing model. That being said the ride though is noticeably more comfortable, and that the redesigned Fit feels more composed at highway speeds. The 2015 Fit’s cabin has a classy design and quality materials with plenty of space for passengers, especially in the back seat where ample legroom will satisfy tall passengers, which is a rare compliment for a sub-compact car.

The Fit has one of the largest cargo holds in the class and test drivers like that the Fit’s magic seat in the back can fold in multiple directions, allowing for various cargo and passenger configurations. The 2015 Honda Fit comes with a four-speaker CD audio system, a USB port, a rear-view camera, Blue-tooth and steering wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls.

Available features include navigation, a power moon roof, push-button start and a six-speaker CD audio system with a 7-inch touch-screen display, satellite radio and Pandora Internet radio compatibility.

Honda Lane Watch is also available, which uses a camera mounted under the passenger side mirror to show the driver what’s in his or her blind spot. Critics appreciate the Fit’s strong list of standard and available tech features, but note that the available touch-screen audio system eliminates most traditional buttons and knobs, which can complicate audio adjustments.”

“The 2015 Honda Fit is more efficient, more refined, and better-equipped than before without sacrificing the practical appeal and peppy personality that have made it a success thus far,” said Kelley Blue Book , a car reviewer based in the United States.

“There’s something here for a wide swath of people. Whether it is accommodating passengers or carrying odd objects, the Fit conforms to you. Nearly all the things that made the old Fit appealing have been made better – it’s nimble, sips less fuel and has a more occupant-friendly cabin. And with its more settled freeway demeanour and less annoying steering, the Fit feels more grown-up than ever,” said Mrs Charmaine Mazaiwana who recently purchased the outgoing Honda Fit 2014.
