A 21-YEAR-OLD Honde Valley woman will perform 105 hours of unpaid work after she was convicted of terminating a four-months pregnancy with the aid of a traditional healer and dumping the foetus in a bush. Melody Dzizangwe, who worked at Potsekai’s homestead in Munyuki Village under Chief Mutasa, said she sought for the services of Sekuru Patrick Manyika (65) to terminate the pregnancy. However, Manyika is denying the charges and was expected to appear in court on Wednesday for trial.
Prosecuting, Mr Kelvin Mufute told the court that on April 13, Melody approached Manyika and requested for herbs to terminate her pregnancy.
The self proclaimed traditional healer allegedly gave her the herbs and charged $15 as payment for the service.
“She administered the herbs, but they did not work and on May 18, she revisited Manyika and was given another concoction.
“Melody successfully terminated the pregnancy on May 24 and buried the foetus in a nearby bush.
The matter came to light on May 29 after the body was found rolled in a blanket by Joseph Mapara.
Joseph saw his dogs devouring the corpse and informed the police leading to Melody’s arrest,” said Mr Mufute.
