Hookers cry foul in ecocash swindle. . . ‘Clients reverse payment after sex’

DUE to the biting economy men who are believed to have shallow pockets have devised means of enjoying “free sex” by engaging in the bedroom game with sex workers and later reclaiming their money by “reversing” mobile money transfer transactions.

With the scarcity of hard cash, sex workers had devised means of keeping their business alive by accepting payment through mobile transfer services. But men — the consumers of sexual services in the streets — have devised means of getting back their money after paying for sex.

And the sex workers are left clutching at straws.

Some sex workers have found themselves moneyless despite all night hard work after their clients reverse payments.

This has resulted in most of them shunning EcoCash payments to avoid offering free sexual services.

These startling revelations emerged at a workshop that was hosted by Sexual Rights Centre at a local hotel on Tuesday.

In separate interviews the sex workers cried foul over men who pay for their highly prized assets but sadly later on reverse the money.

“I got humiliated when I   was at a supermarket in the city centre as I discovered that I did not have sufficient funds. I then realised the money had been reversed. As a result I was left with egg on my face. I then went and checked at Econet and that’s when I was told that the transaction had been reversed after the person claimed he had wrongly sent the money to me,” said Nosizi Sibanda.

Another sex worker weighed in saying she selectively accepts mobile money payment method.

“One of the guys who hired me in Gweru paid me handsomely and had two sex sessions with me during mid- day. A few hours later I got the shock of my life as I found that the guy had reversed payment. Due to the nasty experience I encountered, I arrived at a serious decision that I will only accept EcoCash payment from my regular clients and I will never accept it from strangers,” said a lady who only identified herself as Rudo.

Sexual Rights Centre programmes manager Mojalisa Ndlovu confirmed the shocking incidents.

“There are isolated cases regarding that and we engaged Econet over such incidents of reversing payments. Sadly we could not find a solution as they said they have to talk with the sender (men) of the cash. As a solution to that we have organised sensitisation programmes to create awareness of such unfortunate incidents,” said Ndlovu.
