The Zimbabwe Women’s High Performance Centre were crowned champions of the 2026 Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament after edging hosts Rwanda Women by a solitary run in a dramatic final on Saturday, giving hope to the future of the Lady Chevrons.

The Zimbabweans held their nerve in a tense finish to deny the hosts and cap a remarkable campaign with the title, underlining the continued progress being made within the country’s women’s cricket structures.

The triumph represents another significant milestone for the High Performance Centre programme, which has increasingly established itself as an important pathway for the development of future Lady Chevrons players. Having enjoyed a strong run throughout the tournament, Zimbabwe Women HPC saved their best for last as they overcame a spirited challenge from Rwanda to lift the coveted trophy.

The Zimbabwe side managed to defend their total under immense pressure from the home team.

Captain Adel Zimunhu said this was a great milestone.

“We are delighted to have won the tournament, and I am extremely proud of the effort shown by every player throughout the competition. It was not an easy journey, but we remained united and kept believing in ourselves,” said Zimunhu.

“Playing against Rwanda in the final was always going to be difficult because they had the backing of the home crowd, but we stayed calm under pressure and managed to pull through. Winning by one run shows the fighting spirit that this team possesses.”

“This victory means a lot to us because it reflects the hard work that has been put in by the players, coaches and support staff. Everyone contributed towards this achievement, and we are grateful for the support we received throughout the tournament,” she said.

“The High Performance Centre programme has given many young players an opportunity to develop and showcase their abilities. Winning this title gives us confidence and shows that Zimbabwe women’s cricket has a bright future.”

“We know there is still room for improvement, but this tournament has shown that we are moving in the right direction. We hope to build on this success and continue raising the standards of women’s cricket in Zimbabwe.”

“I would like to thank Zimbabwe Cricket and everyone who has supported us during the tournament. This trophy is for the entire Zimbabwe cricket family, and we hope it inspires more young girls to take up the sport,” she said. The success is expected to provide further encouragement for Zimbabwe Cricket’s efforts to strengthen the women’s game and broaden the talent pool available for national selection.
