MBIRA player and arts administrator, Hope Masike, has been appointed Honorary Ambassador for Korea-Zimbabwe 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
Zimbabwe and South Korea established diplomatic relations on November 18, 1994.
Masike believes that cultural diplomacy is an important pillar in cementing country-to-country relations, and during her tenure as honorary ambassador, she has pledged to make a difference by exchanging ideas, information and knowledge to foster mutual understanding, respect, and positive development.
Masike is willing to learn about Korean culture and is a decorated female artist, rising from humble beginnings to become an arts administrator of repute.
“It is an honour to be appointed the Honorary Ambassador for Korea-Zimbabwe 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
“For me, it’s an opportunity to actively practice custodianship of the Zimbabwean culture, and also bring to light, here in Zimbabwe, the Korean culture.
“The relevance of such cultural developments lies in the important role of cultural diplomacy among countries,” she said.
She said cultural diplomacy is a fun and educative way of exchanging not just culture, as we know it, such as language, art, food and fashion, but the exchanging of ideas, information and knowledge, among others.
“As the Republic of South Korea and Zimbabwe celebrate 30 years of good relations, we say cheers to more sharing of our different and beautiful cultures,” she said.
