The Princess of Mbira, Hope Masike celebrated her 40th birthday in style at Alliance Francaise de Harare over the weekend at a concert dubbed ‘Ruby Jubilee’.
She performed songs from her four albums Hope, Mbira, Love and Chocolate, The Exorcism of a Spinster and Anotida with a live band.
Speaking to H-Metro on the sidelines of the concert, Masike said, life begins at 40 and the best is yet to come.
“They say life begins at 40, so I think I am not expected to have achieved everything I am set out to do, it’s only the beginning.
“One of the things I wanted to have achieved by 40 was four albums and four books, which I have managed to do.
“There is still a lot that I haven’t managed to do, half of it I can’t tell you but the next 40 years to come.
“I am going to push myself more to achieve everything that I am set out to do, the best is yet to come.
“I am very honoured to be 40 because from my primary school class, secondary school class, Harare Polytechnic and the Zimbabwe School of Music, we have classmates who have already passed away.
“Some who are not well for years, so just being 40 and healthy, doing what I really enjoy doing and gifted in and then getting paid for it, that’s a blessing,” she said.
Masike is the Honorary Ambassador for Korea-Zimbabwe 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
In attendance was the Korean Ambassador Park Jae Kyung and delegates from the Korean community and veteran broadcasters, actresses, fellow musicians and music lovers.
