CHURCHILL coach Bob Mahari feels his team was not ready when the school league got underway, but remains hopeful of getting a victory in their clash against hosts Peterhouse today.
He said his players struggled at line-outs and defence.
The Bulldogs have a new captain and believe they can bounce back. Albert Kotora, the prop, will be the new captain.
“We have changed our captain to turn a new leaf for our team and we decided to name Albert Kotora as our new captain because he is one of our key players.
“Our outstanding player has been our prop, Royal Stanley Magwenzi, who has given us a great left shoulder whenever we needed it. Our outside centre has been solid while our wing is great. It has always been hard to beat Peterhouse, especially when we play them at their school, their ground is a problem for most players.
“It is cold and we really do not want to play them in June or July, but we have no choice and we are going there with the hope of getting a victory,” Mahari said.
In the Dairibord School Rugby Festival, the Bulldogs’ performance was poor.
Churchill suffered a 30-22 loss against St John’s College in the league opener but bounced back in their second fixture when they beat Kyle 27-17.
“Now we are better and almost every player is aware of what is expected of him, we have been working on our mistakes,” said Mahari.
He said the boys have been working hard to fix their mistakes.“C
“We have been very successful, if you compare our budgets to any of the top eight elite schools, we have been doing well without having the proper equipments for the sport.”
