HARARE City Hornets won their case against the Basketball Association of Zimbabwe who had barred their foreign players from playing in the quarter-finals of the National Basketball Championships.
BUZ were found to have made the wrong move by the High Court.
“The case, presided over by Justice Munangati-Munongwa on June 6, ordered that the provisional order granted by Justice Manzunzu on April 30 is hereby confirmed.
“The decision by the respondent to disqualify the applicant’s players, namely Titus Njovu, David Canivette Junior, Neville Chivhangane, Sharon Chamwarura and Nyasha Katsatse, be and hereby set aside.
“In the event that the tournament would have proceeded without the participation of the above mentioned players, as a result of the disqualification in question, the outcome of the tournament shall be set aside and declared null and void, respondent to pay costs,” the judgment said.
Hornets chairperson, Sani Mbofana, said they were left with no option.
“It could have not been the best route but, we guess, this will help to shape decisions by our national association in future.
“The point made here is never to take clubs for granted in the future but we expect better things from our leaders in the game.
“More importantly, we expect important office bearers never to be personal on issues and look at the bigger picture in future”, he said.
