Horse racing body closes shop

Takudzwa Chitsiga Sports Reporter
THE Zimbabwe racing fraternity has suffered another blow as the Council of the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association of Zimbabwe have taken the decision to formally close shop.

The association, which was in charge of breeding championss, was shut down as they deemed it was no longer viable. Over the years Zimbabwe produced hundreds of good racehorses but Ipi Tombe proved one of the best and won the Dubai Duty Free race. “We no longer have a viable breeding industry in Zimbabwe and we see little point in maintaining an office,’’ Jackie Cocksedge announ- ced.

“The library and documents will be archived and the trophies and awards will no longer be presented. Maybe one day in the future the industry will be revived.’’

Meanwhile, all is set for this year’s Republic Cup edition which will feature 13 runners at Borrowdale Park this Saturday. The annual event is one of the most decorated events at Borrowdale and is run over 1 900 meters.
