THE much-anticipated 2025 COSAFA Women’s Championship has been postponed after organisers failed to secure a host nation in time.
In a statement to member associations, the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) said discussions were ongoing with several potential hosts capable of meeting the tournament’s requirements.
The regional women’s football showcase, which had been set for 2025, will now be staged in the first quarter of 2026.
“We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we work to maintain the high standards of women’s football within our region,” read the COSAFA statement.
The postponement comes as a blow to players and fans alike, with the championship widely regarded as a crucial platform for nurturing and showcasing female football talent in Southern Africa.
COSAFA assured stakeholders that fresh details on the new host and dates would be communicated soon.
The COSAFA Women’s Championship remains one of the region’s flagship tournaments, playing a key role in elevating women’s football and unearthing stars who go on to shine on the continental and global stage.
