Hot porridge claims toddler’s life

A Binga family has been left in mourning after their two-year-old toddler on Tuesday fell into a 40 litre container of hot porridge, suffering severe burns.

The toddler succumbed to the injuries on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police reported that the incident took place at Nzovunde Village, Binga district.

“The ZRP reports a tragic incident which occurred at Nzovunde Village, Binga, on 3 June 2025, where a two-year-old toddler fell into a metal dish containing approximately 40 litres of hot porridge.

“The dish had been left unattended by the victim’s grandmother, who was preparing to brew traditional beer. The toddler was severely burnt and succumbed to the injuries on 4 June 2025.
