Tourism and Hospitality deputy minister Tongai Mnangagwa has commended the progress being made at the Hyatt Regency Harare The Meikles hotel.
Following a tour of the newly refurbished north wing, Deputy Minister Mnangagwa said the renovations carries a significant factor to the growth of the sector.
“This official opening of the second phase of the refurbished Hyatt Regency Harare The Meikles collection of conference and banqueting venues carries a significant contribution to the growth of the tourism and national economic sector as a whole.
“The new conference rooms that we are launching today bridge the gap of conferencing and events infrastructure in the country and will have a positive impact on meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions,” said deputy minister Mnangagwa.
He called on various other tourism players to invest in infrastructure.
“We need more and more facilities like this hotel across the country so that we don’t end up pitching up tents or people only having event in Harare or Victoria Falls only.
“The Hyatt Regency Harare The Meikles has done a magnificent investment and this gives confidence to the outside world about Zimbabwe’s economy and leadership,” he said.
Speaking at the same event, Hyatt Regency Harare The Meikles general manager, Tinashe Munjoma, said they have been under immense pressure to re-open.
“We are delighted that with effect from today (yesterday), we are back in business and ready to offer our clients a wide range to choose from with a mix of comfort, style and utility.
“In redesigning and refurbishing this collection of venues we have been conscious of the need to make them attractive, stylish, and suitable for the various need they will serve, as well as comfortable and conveniently knitted out.
“We look forward to seeing each and every one of you here back again during events hosted in our venues and to your continuous satisfaction with the experience you have each time you’re here,” said Munjoma.
