EDZAI ISU Theatre Arts Project, with support from Culture Fund in partnership with SIDA and DANIDA, will host the TISU.COM Community Theatre Opening show this on Friday at Zimbabwe Hall in Highfield.
The event will be headlined by a play on the topical issue of demolitions of illegal structures, which aims at stimulating discussion on the issue.
After the performance of the main play, there will be post performance discussions with discussants from Zimbabwe Young Women Network on Peace who have been involved in social accountability and recently conducted a research on housing.
“We will have a briefing on procedures of becoming a home owner from relevant authorities so that people are informed because in most cases ignorance has made desperate home-seekers vulnerable to manipulation,” said Edzai Isu director Tafadzwa Muzondo.
”Evictions and demolitions are not new in Zimbabwe yet more and more people continue to erect structures in undesignated places as the demand for shelter continues to outnumber the available legitimate supply.
“Therefore in keeping up with our mission to tackle topical social issues contributing towards social cohesion, peace and national development, we intend to stimulate discussion on this issue in the context of social cohesion, peace and national development under the Culture Impacts Program to engage communities in national and developmental processes.”
Written and directed by Muzondo and choreographed by Gibson Sarari the play features Samantha Ndlovu, Charlotte Munyanyi, Everson Ndlovu, Brezhnev Guveya, Muzondo and Charles Biniweri.
TISU.COM is also taking theatre to the doorsteps of the Highfield community with performances of their latest gender-based violence play “You Too” in colleges, churches and shopping centres around Highfield from.
“‘You Too’ is our official outreach play with a cocktail of developmental messages on social cohesion, peace and national development on top of the Gender Based Violence message.
“The play speaks to an individual saying ‘you too’ can make a difference in ending Gender Based Violence and achieving social cohesion, peace and national development.
“One of the key points from discussions and interviews after our past three-month activities has been the imperative to roll out our already planned outreach.
“The play uses a community theatre approach that is highly interactive, creative and innovative, incorporating music and dance and we will have discussions after every show, which will be filmed and packaged into free DVDs to be distributed in the community.”
The play was written and directed by Muzondo featuring Lovejoy Mwaoneka, Blessing Nyamukapa, Samantha Ndlovu and Ivirine Chitehwe.
