A domestic worker from Borrowdale, Harare, Alice Padzidza, appeared in court on Monday facing charges of stealing luxury designer items valued at US$14 000 from her employer.

The case was heard by Harare magistrate Ms Ruth Moyo, who remanded her in custody, with a bail application scheduled for today.

The complainant, Radoslaw Lliew Mlandenov, reported that on July 31, he locked his bedroom, secured all windows, and left the country for a business trip, leaving the bedroom keys with Padzidza and instructing her not to enter the room in his absence.

Despite the instructions, Padzidza allegedly unlocked the bedroom and stole several high-value items, including a pair of Louis Vuitton shoes, a wine stand, a souvenir shield and a Romain Jerome wristwatch (model: RJ.T.AU.SP.007.01, Steampunk Titanic DNA).

Upon Mlandenov’s return, he discovered the theft and reported the incident to the police.

Investigations found no signs of forced entry. With Padzidza the only person with access to the keys, she emerged as the prime suspect.

To date, none of the stolen items have been recovered.
